New Work in Space
Elaine launched her new series in March 2010. Entitled 'Micro Mundi' (Small Worlds), it examines how the patterns in Nature seem to replicate on both micro and cosmic scales. Small etchings on the side of a derelict building can look like entire swathes of earth from the air.
On November 16th an image was launched into space on Shuttle Atlantis. This came about as a collaboration with Astronaut Leland Melvin, who was so taken with the ideas in the work, that he offered to carry an image on the mission and photograph it in a window of The International Space Station. Above is Elaine's picture in the The Destiny Lab photographed by Leland to connect with the Earth (see the Amazon River) For more details, see the Portfolio Section.
Mission STS-129. 171 orbits round the Earth, speed of of 17,500 mph, distance 4,490,138 miles.
