Mirror Works

Mirror Works
Elaine was commissioned by The Bloomsbury Festival, 2010 to make some work for outdoor display in a sunken garden. She used the opportunity to further explore printing her photographic images onto mirror.

The pieces blend in with their surroundings and only come into view if sufficient light makes them glint. Their appearance is always changing depending on the time of day.

The markings you see have been made by snails as they eat algae on damp surfaces. Their convoluted trails are like fine etchings and attest to a voracious appetite. Elaine is fascinated with how the markings in nature replicate on varying scales from the smallest snail trail to a large and winding river viewed from space.
